Answering your questions about therapy

Beginning therapy is a profound act of self-care. It's natural to have questions as you consider this step. Below are answers to common concerns to help you feel more at ease as we begin our work together.

What should I expect in our first session?

Our first meeting is a gentle introduction. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy now and what you hope to achieve. There's no pressure to share everything at once; we move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

How long do sessions last and how often will we meet?

Standard individual sessions are 45 minutes long and family/couples sessions are 60 minutes. Typically, I recommend meeting once a week to maintain momentum and build a strong therapeutic relationship, though we can adjust this as you progress.

What are the fees and do you take insurance?

Session fees vary by service type but usualy range between $300-400. I am an out-of-network provider, but I can provide you with a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement according to your plan.

How do I know if therapy—or you—are a good fit?

The most important factor is how you feel during our time together. A good fit means you feel heard, respected, and safe. I offer a free initial consultation call to help you decide if my approach resonates with you.

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions, and what are your typical hours?

I believe therapy should fit comfortably into your life. To that end, I offer in-person sessions at my office near Grand Central/Bryant Park and virtual sessions via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. My typical hours are in the evenings.

What happens after the first visit?

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel a little anxious. I want our first meeting to feel as comfortable as possible, opening the door to our continued work together. Here is a simple guide of what that might look like.

Reflecting together

At the end of our first visits, we’ll talk about how it felt for you. We’ll decide together if I’m the right person to support you on this journey and if so, set goals to guide our work together.

Setting a rhythm

If we decide to move forward, we’ll look at our schedules and set a regular weekly or bi-weekly rhythm that feels sustainable for your life.

Moving at your pace

Progress in therapy is rarely a straight line. We’ll work with slow, steady intention, adjusting our focus as you heal and grow at your own natural pace. We'll check in on that progress as we go along.

Take a gentle first step

Reach out for a brief consultation to see if we’re a good fit. I'm here whenever you feel ready to reach out.
